The increasing digitalized world has changed the role of accountants due to technological advancements. This has enhanced the accountant’s ability to analyse and interpret data and making the accountant’s job a little easier. This course hinges on preparing graduates who can integrate traditional
accounting principles with software and information systems to create a centralized entity’s financial
data. This digitalization also simplifies the process of processing financial information. An information
technology accountant will be able to work at a professional services firm, in the accounting department of a private company or in government & non-profit sector. The rapidly evolving relationship
between accounting & information technology means accountants now need to understand how
technology impacts business and how it can be used to improve operational efficiency, achieve regulatory compliance, support financial reporting & management & even increase revenues. They must
also have an appreciation for how to capture & communicate technology needs for their business.
